One thing about hammer-ons and pull-offs is that we can have one follow the other. We can pick a note and do a hammer-on, and without another pick, we can do a pull-off. Thus, we can play three notes (or even more), with only one pick. The example below shows how this might look and sound. Mms. 1-2 show hammer-ons into pull-offs, mms. 3-4 show pull-offs into hammer-ons, and mms. 5-8 shows a series of triplets that use long combinations of both.
