Let's start by looking at the easiest device to play over an A blues: the A blues scale. The A blues scale consists of A · C · D · Eb · E · G. It fits nicely over all three chords in the form and we can pull it out at any time. If you're not sure what to play next, you can always rely on using the blues scale with the same root note as the key of our tune. So if this was an E blues, you could use the E blues scale - a G blues can take a G blues scale - and so on. Here's how the A blues scale sounds over the A blues form.
