Another way we can enhance our shuffle playing in E is to drone strings on top of the shuffle that we're playing on the lower strings. This type of playing was favored by Stevie Ray Vaughan as well as some other players. In the example below, our low chords have almost become a bass line interwoven with the high two-note chords on the off beat on top. Hit the low notes on the beat with a downstroke, and grab the high notes on the off beat with an upstroke. This example is shown just for the E chord, but we'll see it in action on the A chord when we combine everything that we've learned on the next page...
