Here's an example where the harmony is a little more "out". Maybe the Gmaj7 and Csus4 don't fit so well, but when we hit the Eb and the G, it really brings the lick into focus (IMHO). Also note how we're now playing a different chord in every measure, instead of every other measure:

Eb
G
