OK, let's start with the C chord. The voicing that you use for the C is important because it dictates how it can be embellished with little fills. Any voicing that involves a barre with the 1st finger is preferable. Why? Because it frees up your other 3 fingers to fret other notes while you hold down the others with your first finger. For this reason, we use this voicing for the C major: C major This is the chord that's played in the 1st measure of the example below. Now, how can we embellish this voicing? One way is to move up and down the C major pentatonic scale (C · D · E · G · A). If you look at the four little phrases that follow the chord, every one of these notes comes from this scale. For now, let's just play one note at a time, and get them under our fingers...
